Mr. Willis Simmons, 80, a native of Daufuskie Island,
South Carolina, had his transition Saturday, Augut 30, 2008 at Hospice Savannah, Inc of Savannah, GA.
He lived on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina all his life. He received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army after serving in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Simmons retired from Beaufort County Public Works and Ferry Captain of PF-37.
Survivors: wife of fifty-six years Janie E. Simmons of Daufuskie Island, SC; sons: Willis Simmons, Sr. of Daufuskie Island, SC., Joseph (Mary) Simmons, Ervin (Mary) Simmons, both of Savannah, GA, Henry (Nikki) Simmons, Sr of Atlanta, GA. and Clarence Simmons of Daufuskie Island, SC; daughter, Lilly (James) Council, and Georgia (Rev. Ronald) Smith, all of Savannah, GA; brother, Eddie (Mary) Simmons of Savannah; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; a host of grands, great-grands, nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and friends.
Funeral service: 12:00 noon, Saturday, September 6, 2008 at First African Union Baptist Church, Daufuskie Island, SC. Processional will board the Ferry at the Hilton Head Dock at 9:30am.
