Superintendent, Byron C. Hunter

On Friday, October 31, 2008, the Lord in His infinite wisdom took home his servant, Superintendent Byron C. Hunter to eternal rest. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hunter, Sr. on May 14, 1960, Byron was the youngest of six children. Educated in Chatham County Parochial and Public Schools, Byron was a 1978 graduate from Savannah High School. He earned a B.A. degree in Accounting from Savannah State College, now Savannah State University.

Byron was employed as a Case Manager for the Chatham County Department of Family and Children Services. He also worked as a Retail Sales' Manager.

Elder Hunter served as Superintendent of the Headquarters District, Jurisdictional Secretary, and Director of Budget and Finance of the Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Southeast Georgia Church of God in Christ. He also served as Chief of Staff and Sunday School Superintendent of Bread of Life Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Benjamin P. Collins.

Superintendent Hunter was preceded in death by one son, Byron C. Hunter, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife of twenty-three (23) years, Mrs. Karen Berrien Hunter; two loving children: Christopher David and Gabrielle Marie; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry (Mary) Hunter, Sr.; sisters: Jacqueline Hunter of Atlanta, GA, Cecelia Hunter of Chicago, IL, Deborah (Tony) Jones of San Diego, CA, Cynthia Hunter of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Harry Hunter, Jr. of Detroit, MI; mother-in-law, Mrs. Shirlene Berrien of Savannah; sisters-in-law: Patricia (John) Howard, Renee (Temple) Jones, all of Savannah, Arlene Berrien of New York; brothers-in-law: Johnathan Berrien, John (Rhonda) Berrien, all fo Savannah; godchildren: Shana Dixon, Chad Roberts, Lyndon White, Darrielle Whitaker; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, spiritual family members and friends.

Funeral services: 11:00am, Saturday, November 8, 2008 at St. John ""The Mighty Fortress"" Baptist Church, 526-528 Hartridge Street, Savannah, GA 31401. Public viewing: Friday, November 7. 2008 from 9:00am until 8:00pm at Adams Funeral Services, Inc., 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, GA 31404 and he will lie in state from 9:00am to the hour of service Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Church. Interment: Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery, 1600 Wheaton Street, Savannah, GA 31404.
