Reverend Travoy LeeVann Downing

The Reverend Travoy LeeVann Downing, 40, had his transition on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Candler Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services for The Reverend Travoy LeeVann Downing will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Tremont Temple Baptist Church; Quentin Morris, Pastor.

Public viewing will be held from 10:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery.

OBITUARY:

Travoy was born June 22, 1976 in Savannah, GA. He is the son of Ms. Bertha L. Vann-Sanders of Baxley, GA and Mr. Erie L. Downing of Savannah, GA.
 Savannah was his home until the marriage of his mother to Mr. Leroy Sanders of Hazlehurst, GA.  While in Savannah, Travoy attended kindergarten. He completed his education in the Jeff Davis County School System. The last day of his junior year, May 28, 1993, he broke his neck injuring his spinal cord in a diving accident at Lake Mayers in Appling County. He spent the summer of 1993 at Shepherd Spinal Center in Atlanta, Georgia rehabilitating his injury and adjusting to his new lifestyle as a quadriplegic. He graduated from Shepherd Spinal Clinic in August 1993 and  returned  to   Hazlehurst.  He  entered  school in September 1993. He graduated from Jeff Davis High School on June 3, 1994.  After graduation, Travoy prepared himself to attend Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia. On Mother's Day, May 9, 1999, Travoy graduated Magna Cum Laude from SSU.  He received a degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Technology with a minor in Mathematic. After many down turns and disappoints, Travoy was blessed with a job at Georgia Department of Labor: Disability Adjudication Services (DAS).
  On January 22, 2006 at Second Bethlehem Full Gospel Baptist Church, Travoy was called and ordained as a deacon.  God continued to deal with Travoy until he finally accepted the life long prophecy of becoming a minister.  Rev. Downing was called and ordained as a minister at Second Bethlehem Full Gospel Baptist Church under the tutelage of Reverend Doctor Bernita Smalls.
Although Travoy was only 40 years old when God called him home, he lived a full life!   Through his faith in God, God granted him the desires of his heart!  He graduated from high school on time following his spinal cord injury!  He graduated from college! He lived independently!  Proverbs 18:22 states “He who finds a wife, finds a good thing”.  Rev. Downing met Charity Kelsey while working at DAS.  They began dating on December 1, 2012 and were united in holy matrimony on March 8, 2015.  In this union, Rev. Downing gained a son, Robert, and they shared a very special bond.   Travoy was preceded in death by one sibling, Gunya Downing.
 He leaves to lovingly cherish his memory:  his loving and devoted wife, Charity K. Downing; his son, Robert Williams, his loving mother, Bertha Vann Sanders, his loving father, Erie Lee Downing (Bertha Grant); his step-father, Leroy Sanders; his siblings,  Eric (Tasha) Vann, Sr., Justin (Michalla) Sanders, Geralah Hazel, Barbara Young, Rovena (Roger) Snell, Sheryl (Demetrius) Baker, Bernard Sanders, Sidney Sanders, Sr., Juvonia Young, Hebert Young, Chatashia Young, Tracey Sanders; God children, Travon, J’Airel (Mike), Victoria, Adasha and Travoi; mother-in-love, Janie L. Williams; father-in-love, Melvin Kelsey; a longtime care professional and friend, Richard Heyward; Godfather, Rev. Eugene Ponder and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
