Rebecca Natalie Taylor Cabine was born the 7th of 8 children on December 28th, 1949 to Nathaniel and Constance Taylor in North Chicago, Illinois. Growing up an honor student, she received her education throughout the North Chicago Public School System. After graduating from North Chicago Community High School in 1968, Rebecca attended Western Illinois University where she later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. After graduating, Rebecca returned to her hometown to teach at Novak King Elementary School. She always had a passion for teaching, working with kids and wanting to make an impact in their lives.

In 1973, Rebecca married her childhood friend Larry Cabine, and from this loving union their only child Kenya was born. The husband and wife duo decided to move to Atlanta Georgia in 1976. Upon arriving to the south Rebecca took a job with the City of Atlanta. Then in 1982 she began her illustrious career as a proud and dedicated educator with the Fulton County School System. Rebecca taught at Kathleen Mitchell Elementary and Camp Creek Middle School. She was recognized as Teacher of the Month several times and was known as the sweet, thoughtful, yet stern teacher with a beautiful smile that cared about her students.

After 11 years of marriage Rebecca became a single parent. She worked diligently to provide a good life for herself and Kenya. Rebecca attended Troy State University while teaching and received her Master’s Degree in Education and was subsequently promoted to principal of Seaborn Lee Elementary School. Thereafter, Rebecca received the degree of Educational Specialist from Troy State University in 1996 and continued to work as an administrator for Paul D. West Middle and S.L. Lewis Elementary School. She enjoyed her 26 years as an educator for Fulton County School System.

Rebecca loved traveling abroad. Many of her destinations included China, South America, and Canada. She was also a very spiritual person that loved the lord. Rebecca enjoyed cooking, shopping, dancing, gardening, fine arts, live jazz music, and spending time with her family.

In 2008 Rebecca was diagnosed with early onset Dementia/ Alzheimer’s disease and moved to Savannah Georgia to be close to her son and receive the proper care she needed. Despite becoming non-verbal in the late stages of her illness, Rebecca kept a smile on her face while giving random cheek kisses to show affection to individuals around her.

Rebecca is survived by her loving son Kenya, sister Barbara Wilson, brother's Claude Taylor, Charles Taylor, Dean Taylor, sister Mary Byrd, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former students, and amazing caretakers.
