OBITUARY
On Monday, May 17, 2021, Melissa Grant, transitioned into eternal rest with the Lord at the age of 36. She was a phenomenal mother, a doting daughter, and a beloved family member and friend to so many.
Melissa was born on June 16, 1984 in Savannah, Georgia to William and Linda Grant. She graduated from Hershel V. Jenkins High School in 2002, and she was well-known throughout the school community for her joyful, high-spirited personality and her active engagement in the athletics program, playing on the Varsity basketball, volleyball, and track teams.
Melissa’s greatest accomplishments were her two children. She was devoted to their well-being and success, and she proudly celebrated their milestones and achievements. She held a special bond with her family members, and it was her mother’s unwavering faith, in particular, that enabled Melissa to survive heart transplant surgery and other health complications with tremendous strength and victory. Even with health challenges, Melissa still found ways to care for and consider others beyond herself. Her generosity was unmatched. Her beautifully boisterous and lively spirit were sure to evoke smiles, laughs, and a good time from anyone who was in her presence. Melissa’s love, kindness, and joy for life will continue to nurture our souls and fill our hearts.
A loyal contributor to her community, Melissa was a devoted and diligent employee of the local government of Savannah where she worked for the Code Compliance Department, and in 2017, she ventured to Charlotte, NC where she continued her impact in city government.
Melissa was preceded in death by her father, William, and she is survived by her mother, Linda, her two children, Kelissa and Kevin (Trey) Gillison, III, her brothers, Eddie, John (Sandra), and William Grant IV (Tiffany), her sisters, Bertha, Eva, Margie, Gloria, Ann, Louise, Charlene, and Lisa, several cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many friends and loved ones.
