This is Her Story!
“Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say on the Lord”.
Psalm 27:14
On the afternoon of July 14, 2021, Janie Louise Williams was called to eternal rest surrounded by those who love her.
Janie was the youngest daughter of the late Dea. Andrew Williams and the late Sister Janie Moultrie Williams. She was born on July 25, 1955, in Savannah, GA. Although the youngest daughter, many believed her to be the oldest! She was reared in a loving and supportive family. Janie also was a fierce protector of her family and friends! She was named after her mother and is still referred to or called Lil Janie.
Lil Janie was educated in the public schools of Chatham County. She attended Sol C. Johnson High School and Richard Arnold High School graduating in 1973. She also attended South College and received her Nurse Assistant Certification.
Janie married Melvin Kelsey and to this union three children were born, the late Melvin, Charity and Brandi. Her first born and only son Melvin, preceded her in death in 2019. She later married MacArthur Dixon.
Janie worked at several nursing homes in Savannah and was also a personal caregiver. She resigned her job at Savannah Square as a Restorative Certified Nurse Assistant to care for her father.
Janie loved her church, Second Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. She was baptized at a young age and served faithfully until her health failed. She attended Sunday School, Bible Study, a member of the Usher Board and served in the Harold Baker Angelic Chorus. Janie was the church secretary during the tenure of Rev. Harold Baker. Her bulletins were filled with encouraging and supportive words for all.
Janie was a lover of her family! She always reminded us that #Family Matters! Janie loved to read and was a news junkie. She also loved to cook. On any day you could find a buffet of food. Janie advised us the food was great because she was “cooking with love”! Janie’s nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren were her “heart beats”!
Janie’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her two daughters, Charity Kelsey Downing and Brandi Niena Omara Kelsey; two sisters, Delores Middleton and Carolyn W. Price (Louis); one Lil Big Brother, Shagari LeeAndrew Williams (Donna); nine grandchildren, Hakeem Harley, Jamal Kelsey, Jessica Jones, Reneka Kelsey, Robert Andrew Williams, Gregory Andrew Peters, Brandon Niem Peters, Josiah Peters and Amir Powell; nine great grandchildren and two godchildren Leandrea Thompson and Linda Robinson; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends; Carolyn S. Heyward, her loving and lifelong friend for over fifty years.
