Ms. Willie B. Burks, a beacon of love and warmth, left us peacefully on November 28, 2024, in Savannah, Georgia. Born on September 24, 1950, in Percy, Mississippi, Ms. Burks dedicated her life to uplifting those around her through her enduring spirit and deep faith in God.
Willie's education journey began at the City College of New York, where she majored in Psychiatry. Though her studies were cut short due to health challenges, her passion for understanding the human spirit never faded. She continued on to become a small business owner and Master Cosmetologist. She used her skills to not only beautify but also to connect with her clients, creating lasting friendships along the way. She even later went on to pursue a short-lived venture into substitute teaching which allowed her to nurture young minds, reflecting the dedication she held for her community.
Renowned for her kind and loving nature, Willie served as a mediator and prayer warrior, advocating for peace and unity among friends and family. Her unwavering commitment to her faith solidified her stature as a true woman of God, a testament to her radiant spirit that forever uplifted those fortunate enough to know her.
Ms. Burks is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Yushumia Burks and Chateasa Burks, her granddaughters, Deazjhureil Burks and Madison Burks, and honorary grandson, Lloyd Height. Each of them carries a piece of her legacy, reflecting her nurturing spirit and the strength she instilled in them. Her siblings, Erma Carrington (Spring Lake, NC), Lizzie L. Burks (Spring Lake, NC), Jessie Hill (Dolton, IL), and Gentry Burks (Spring Lake, NC), will also carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. Preceding her in death was her beloved mother, Lizzie Mae Burks—and now, in her death, Willie has rejoined those who have departed before her, bringing light and joy to their eternal gathering.
Throughout her life, Ms. Burks cultivated relationships grounded in love and respect. She, also, leaves behind a host of family and friends who will forever treasure the moments shared, the lessons learned, and the unconditional love and support she provided.
