Profile of Life
Sarah Lee Orr-Law was born June 28, 1928 to Charles Orr and Gertrude Van Orr of Savannah, Georgia. Sarah’s mother enrolled her in Catholic school at an early age, where she learned to love the Lord.
She married Lawrence Law and to that union, one son, Nathaniel Law, was born. The marriage dissolved.
Sarah relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she began her career in fashion. She took great pride in her trade, learned quickly, and was self-taught. She quickly impressed any employer she worked for with her talents.
While in Philadelphia, Sarah cultivated her growing faith in the Lord while attending Transfiguration Catholic Church. She worked with the Outreach Ministries, always ready to serve the Lord and the church.
Sarah’s love of adventure took her to various countries and on numerous cruses along with her traveling partner, her sister, Lauretta. A most memorable trip was when they visited Rome Italy to the Beatification of Mother Katherine Drexel.
After over thirty years in the fashion industry, Sarah retired and went full circle to return to Savannah, Georgia to care for her ailing mother until her passing. Upon her return to Savannah, Sarah remained devoted to her duties to the Lord. She served as an usher and Extraordinary Minister, serving Holy Communion to the sick and shut in at Heritage Park Nursing Home. She served in the role willingly and faithfully every Sunday under the direction of Rev. Father Robert E. Chaney, Pastor of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. She greatly enjoyed her service to the church and the Lord. In 2002, Sarah was honored and humbled to receive the Diocese of Savannah, Bishop Francis Gartland Award. This award is given to those who have given exemplary service to the Church. Sarah served faithfully until illness prevented her active participation.
After retirement, when she was not serving the Lord, she enjoyed gardening and caring for her yard. Sarah took great pride in her home. Sarah also enjoyed “telling it like it is.” She didn’t accept anything less that she deserved and challenged others to strive for their goals as well.
Sarah’s work on Earth was completed on September 29, 2016, when God called her home. She was surrounded by friends and family with Gospel music playing in the background. Preceding her in death, her son, Nathaniel Law and her brother, David Van. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Lauretta Orr-Wood of Nanuet, New York; her grandson, Nathaniel Law II of Valdosta, Georgia, her granddaughter, Natalie Law of Allentown, Pennsylvania; her great-grandchildren, Sherrel Law, Nathaniel Law III, Alexis Law, Alecia Kaelke, Nicolette Law, and Santana Law. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
