Adams announces the passing of Mrs. Mable Thomas Cook, 87, who transitioned on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Mrs. Mable Thomas Cook passed away on August 1, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born on August 11, 1936 in Girard, Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. Willie and Roberta (Williams) Thomas. She attended the Dalton Baptist Church as a child and was baptized at Mill Creek in Girard. She was one of 12 children. She graduated from Central High School in Sylvania, Georgia in 1956. She moved to Savannah, Georgia in 1958 in hopes of joining the Air Force. On June 9, 1959, she married Mr. Lafayette Cook of Savannah, Georgia who predeceased her death on September 22, 2020. They were married for 61 years. She worked as a wife and homemaker for over a decade until she became employed in 1973 at Memorial Hospital where she worked until she retired in 1995. 

Mom Mable and Lafayette had seven children who loved her dearly. Mom was a caring and loving person who made sure that her children had everything they needed. She sacrificed to provide for them often selflessly giving all that she had. Through cookouts, family trips to Florida, and the annual family fish fry, she showed what being a mother, wife, sister, aunt, and cousin meant to her. Everyone who came in contact with her loved her. She touched the lives of all who knew her. She was known for her cooking especially her sweet potato pies, which she continued to make until she transitioned.

She leaves to treasure her memory her children: Mrs. Velma (Cook) Prescott who predeceased her; Mr. Marcus Cook (Cheryl); Mrs. Jacqueline Cook Early (Larry); Mrs. Karen Cook Bell (Clarence) of Bowie, MD; Mr. Lafayette Cook Jr. of El Paso, Texas; Mr. Michael Cook (Jeanette) of Locust Grove, Ga; Mr. Kevin Cook (Pam) of El Paso, Texas; her loving sisters Mrs. Alberta Thomas and Ms. Emma Thomas and nine brothers and sisters who predeceased her in death: Mrs. Katie Thomas Jackson; Ms. Charlene Thomas; Mrs. Thelma Thomas Mack; Mrs. Annabelle Thomas Reddy; Mr. Fred Thomas; Mr. Jimmy Thomas; Mr. Rufus Thomas; Mr. Roosevelt Thomas; Mr. Jesse Thomas. She leaves to honor her memory a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral Service at Jonesville Baptist Church, 5201 Montgomery Street, Savannah, Georgia, 31405 at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

Burial: Bonaventure Cemetery- Greenwich Section.
