OBITUARY:
Sister Gloria Jean Greene’s sunrise was May 5, 1948, and sunset was December 7, 2024. She was 76 years old. She was preceded in death by her mother, Deaconess Juanita G Mitchell, and older brother Deacon Joseph R Green. Gloria lived in Savannah all of her life. She, her brother (Joseph) and sister (Betty) joined First African Baptist Church and were baptized together May 1961, along with four others.
Gloria spent her time taking care of anyone and everyone. She had no trouble helping those in need. Even when she was low, it didn’t matter, because she was going to find a way to serve her fellowman. She will give a person her last. Gloria would feed you breakfast, lunch, and dinner, give you a snack, pack you up with a plate to go, and then you can return for more. If she had it, it was yours also.
Gloria spent over 30 years taking care of the Tannenbaum family of three young boys (now men) Joel, Michael, & Daniel). To this day, they are all fathers. They along with their children love Gloria. She has pictures of each one as they were born, and now grown up with their children.
Gloria loved to bring the welcome to our morning worship services. Never with a piece of paper in front of her. It all came from the bottom of her heart. She did this for many, many years until her health started to fail her…We couldn’t wait to hear what she had to say each Sunday.
Those left to cherish Gloria’s memories include sister: State Command Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Betty L G Morgan, brother/son: Kevin L Mitchell; special sisters: Margaret S Fireall, Vivian R Smart, Melvina W Parker; Sisters-in-Law, Vivian P Green, Sherrill Mitchell; Several Nieces, Grand Nieces; Nephews, Grand Nephews; Goddaughters: A Shaquana Parker Brown, Bless’in Robinson; Loving Cousins, Vernelle M Coleman, Izetta P Anfield, Terri M J Starke, Bernard Moultrie (Mayor); Second Mothers, Mother Mary T Roberson, Deaconess Edith W Moultrie, and Deaconess Janie B Bowers, special father: Richard Tindal, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
Therefore, Big Sis (Kevin), Jean (Betty) Ms Vandross (known by all), please wait for us and then we will join together and “walk around heaven all day with you, mother, and brother.”
Gloria spent her last years in the Healthcare Units: Abercorn Rehabilitation Center and Savannah Acute Post where everyone loved her. She cheered up the workers and clients at each facility. Their hearts are broken. She’s a part of their families. She was always pleasant and stayed positive, because she would remind them that GOD was always taking care of her, and in control of all of her health issues. She put all of her trust in HIM.
On Saturday around 7:37pm, she heard the LORD’s voice saying come on up and dwell in my house forever. AMEN!!!
