Beverly Yvette Griffin was born April 22, 1964, to the late Henry Blowe Griffin, Sr. and
Earline Greene Griffin of Courtland, VA. On Monday, September 23, 2024, at age 60, Beverly
peacefully transitioned from this life to the next in her Savannah, Georgia home. Her early
adolescent years were spent growing up on Southampton County’s Wakefield Road on the
Greene family farm next door to her grandparents, the late Henry Ward Beecher Greene &
Margaret Ann Williams Greene. While there, she was introduced to Christ and often attended the
family church up the road, the Zion Southampton African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
Later, the family moved off the farm and onto Sunlight Drive, formerly known as Ridley Road,
in Courtland.
Beverly was the fourth daughter and the fifth child of seven children. She was affectionately
known to family and friends as “Shake.” She attended Southampton Jr. High & Southampton
High Schools where she loved to play on the Girls Basketball teams; she was also a cheerleader
at SHS. Beverly met, married, and started a family with high school sweetheart, Michael Hill,
Sr. She later graduated from Greensville High School in Emporia. Beverly was predeceased by
her parents and grandparents, including the late William Griffin & Helen Epps Griffin, and a
brother, Shawnta Monerae Griffin.
To cherish her beautiful memory, she leaves five children born to the union with her former
husband: Catherine L. Hill of Williamsburg, VA, Michael R. Hill, Jr. (Nikima), Tracie A. Hill,
Stacie A. Hill & Charnese E. Hill of Savannah, GA; three grandsons, La’Shawn Hill, Camryn
Hill, and Caidyn Hill of Williamsburg; six siblings, Charlie Greene (Gladys) of Norfolk, VA,
Mary A. Williams of Courtland, VA, Hyla Blondell Johnson of Newport News, VA, Helena
Griffin of Chesapeake, VA, Henry Griffin, Jr. of Alberta, VA, Angela Griffin of Hampton, VA,
LaTesha Reid of Franklin, VA, Tyrena Gleaton (Brandon) of Springfield, GA, and a host of
nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Shake was especially close to her cousins Doll & Robin,
her nieces, and her nephews. She had a special placed in her heart for her special friends who
were like family David Jones, Cynthia Mines, Sherlene Wyche, William “Champ” Butts, David
Perry & Richard Evans, and her bonus son, KeShawn Ellis, of Savannah.
In her lifetime, Beverly was a dedicated US Marine Corps spouse while married, a devoted
mother to her children, a supportive sister, caring friend, and a hard worker on her jobs at
Maxim Medical Supply, CANON, Nestle, and others. Before her illness, Beverly enjoyed
working as a personal care assistant for patients requiring in-home health care. “Shake” was a
true Dallas Cowboys fan; she was always the life of the party, energetic, feisty, and fun to be
around. She had a big heart. Beverly enjoyed life, her big family, and supporting her kids. She
loved taking care of her home, shopping, fashion, listening to music—especially the artists
Jaheim and Future, dancing, and attending family gatherings. She, with her courageous heart,
bold spirit, and amazing smile, will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 4th at 12:00 Noon, at Engram Funeral
Home, 1001 Armory Drive, Franklin, VA, with Rev. James B. Hill delivering the eulogy. There
will be no public viewing. Attendees may greet family members after the service; a repast is
scheduled immediately following the service.
