Adams announces the passing of Torrence Jonathan Burgess, 54, who passed away at Pruitt Health of Savannah on Thursday, August 5, 2021 after a short illness.
Torrence was the youngest son of Marie (Burgess) Gibbons and Harrison Burgess, Sr. He was the fourth of five children.
Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. Torrence grew up on the westside of Savannah in the Liberty City community. He was a graduate of Windsor Forest High School and Armstrong State University.
He was a dedicated teacher at Andrea B. Williams Elementary School. He loved teaching and made every effort to pour into the lives of his students.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harrison Burgess, Sr. and his sister, Carlotta (Burgess) Rice.
He is survived by his loving mother, Marie (Burgess) Gibbons; two brothers, Harrison Burgess, Jr. (Savannah) and Timothy Leonard Burgess (Savannah) and one sister, Stephanie Omega Burgess (Savannah); two nieces, Erika Sanders (Savannah) and Kelsey Burgess (Chicago); two nephews, Jerome Burgess (Columbia, S.C.) and Everette Garcia, Jr. (Charleston, S.C.) and four great nephews, two great nieces and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive family and friends from 4pm to 6pm Friday, August 13, 2021, at Adams Funeral Home – 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, Georgia, 31405.
There will be a graveside service at 11am on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Greenwich Cemetery, Thunderbolt, Georgia 31404.
