Adams announces the passing of Mrs. Ruth M. West, 85, who transitioned on Monday, February 12, 2018 at her Residence.

Rutha "Ruth" Mae Brown West, 85 of Levy, South Carolina passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at her residence under the care of Hospice of South Carolina. Ruth was born on May 23, 1932 to the late Laura Jenkins Brown and Walter P. Brown.

She was the fifth of twelve children between both her parents. Ruth married Moses West in 1951 and they moved to the West Savannah community on Love Street in 1955, where together they raised 5 children and their oldest grandson, Keith. Ruth had a passion for sewing and cooking.

She was employed in various occupations through the years. She worked faithfully for over 30 years as a domestic in the home of Mitchell and Polly Dunn until retirement in 2014. Ruth was a faithful member of Townsley Chapel AME Church where she served on the Missionary Society, Stewardess Board, and many auxiliaries. She loved taking care of the elderly and the community as a whole. Ruth also attended St. Paul AME Church, St. Mark Baptist Church and First African Baptist Church (Jonesville Church) all located in the Levy community.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memory five children, Frances West Tukes (Johnny) of Savannah,GA Herman West of Levy, SC Mozella West Raines (Thomas) of Jacksonville, FL, Gloria West Frazier (Wilbert) of Savannah, GA and Steve West of Savannah, GA, one special grandson Keith Allen Tukes, Sr. (Glorina) of Norfolk, VA, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grand children. Ruth also leaves to mourn her passing three sisters, Bernice Jones, Rosalee Heyward, and Veronica Brown, one sister-in-law Ariebell West as well as a host of cherished nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Her service will be held Saturday February 17th at 12pm at Townsley Chapel AME, 252 Eagle Street, Savannah GA. .
