OBITUARY
Mother Emerson was first and foremost a Child of God, Prayer Warrior, Church Mother, Deaconess, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Nana, Sister, Aunt, and Friend to All. She absolutely adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her children often found themselves sharing that adoration with all their neighborhood and college friends.
She was known around Savannah for her Angelic Spirit, and those tasty sweet potato pies and fruit cakes. Upon meeting her, she would grace you with her signature smile, and somehow you found yourself caught up in a magical place. Her physicians and pharmacists loved her so much that they worked tirelessly on her behalf, and would often step in to make what was often declared impossible a possibility.
In a world where practically no-one writes long handed thank you notes, Mother Emerson composed the most beautiful thank you notes after receiving a gift. Her gratitude was expressed through words penned on paper, and if you ever received one of her infamous thank you notes, you felt a great sense of love. She was equally passionate about her bible study writings which
hopefully will be published some day. To know her was to love her.
Mother Emerson’s husband, Oregon Emerson (06/1999) and son, Silas L Emerson (09/1983) preceded her in death. Her living legacy includes 8 Children - Lucille Emerson; Elizabeth Emerson Telfair, Guyton GA; Oregon Emerson III, College Park, GA; Herbert Emerson (Michele), Upper Marlboro, MD; Flora Emerson (Tony Little), Sylvia Lee (B.G.), Chesapeake VA; Byron T Emerson, Ellenwood, GA; and Regina Emerson, Smyrna GA. In addition, Janie Russell (Thomas), Savannah and Tanuel Lee, Smyrna GA. 17 Grandchildren: Sherod, Thomica, Shantell, Chance, Malcolm, Kia, Rodney, Brian, Joshua, Darius, Cameron, Yvonne, Yvette, Thomas, Patrice, Allen and Nicholas. 9 Great-grandchildren: Nefertiri, Tyre, Ryan, Serenity, G’vaun, Kaleb, Elijah, Emmanuel, and Abigayle (and 21 additional great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly). Surviving Siblings: Abraham Lewis (Thelma) Patterson NJ; Lilla
White, Springfield, MA; Janie Lewis, Estill SC; Louise Dees, Irvington NJ and Mary Mitchell (Henry), Estill SC.
Deceased Siblings: Aaron Lewis, James Lewis; Barbara Gordon (Arthur). Surviving In-Laws: Arthur Emerson (Maggie), Charleston SC; Michael Emerson, Savannah. Deceased In-Laws: Louvenia Deloach, Ada Bostick (Marion), Virginia Deloach (Walter), Eula Mae, Willie Emerson, Roosevelt Emerson (Daisy); and James Emerson (Queen Esther).
Her memory will also be forever cherished by a wealth of extended family, church members, nephews & nieces, cousins, friends, neighbors, and adopted children all over the world. We will miss her earthly presence, but will look forward to seeing her again at her new address - “Pearly
Gate Lane.”
