Adams announces the passing of Mrs. Lonnie Mae Brown, 73, who transitioned on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Memorial Hospital.
Lonnie Mae Collins Brown was born January 3, 1948 in Savannah, GA to the late Lonnie Collins, Sr and the late Agnes Boyd. She was called home to eternal rest on Thursday, November 11, 2021.
Lonnie was a 1967 graduate of Sophronia Tompkins High School. In the same year, she married her one and only true love, the late Lawrence Brown, Jr. In 51 years of marriage, together they provided a loving, nurturing and Christian home for their family. Lonnie was a powerful influence and laid a great foundation for her loved ones.
She was employed at Chatham County Department of Family and Children Services for many years before joining the GA Dept of Labor where she retired after 25 years of service.
Lonnie was an excellent cook. She was known for her infamous pound cakes, her hot sauce collection and infinite amount of seasonings. When she wasn’t baking, she enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends. She was a selfless woman, always giving and caring for others. Lonnie’s generosity was unmatched.
She is a member of ConnecXion United Methodist Church. Prior to that she was a member of Coastal Cathedral and Pentecostal Miracle Deliverance Center where she served as a Missionary for many years.
Lonnie is survived by her three children, her only son, Greg (DeLeasa) Brown of Atlanta, her two daughters, Tammy (Andre) Cureton of Savannah, and Janet (Ogunna) Njoku of Virginia, eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, her sister Barbara Ann Temple, and two brothers John Boyd, Sr, and Charles Collins. She also leaves behind her best friend, Charlotte Smalls and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a 17-year old grand doggy Ike.
Adams announces graveside services of Mrs. Lonnie Mae Collins Brown which will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Magnolia Memorial Gardens located 5532 Silk Hope Rd. Savannah, GA 31405.
Viewing will be held from 4 PM - 6 PM, Friday, November 19, 2021 in The Adams Chapel.
