Adams announces the passing of Mrs. Ellen Thomas Sapp, 80 who transitioned on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at her residence.
Ms. Ellen “Tony” Thomas Sapp of Savannah, GA made her transition on March 17th, 2018. She was born in Sylvania, Screven County Georgia on November 12, 1937 from the late Samuel Sapp and Ellen Gordon Thomas. She was educated in the public school system of Bulloch County, GA, having graduated from William James High School in 1957. She attended Tennessee State University from 1961-62 but received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Armstrong State College in 1973. Ms. Sapp worked as a Speech and Language Pathologist for more than 30 years, having worked for Chatham, Dodge, Bibb, Long, Liberty, Laurens and Bryan counties. She was also employed by the New York City Public School System. After retirement, she worked as a substitute teacher for the Chatham County Board of Education. She also volunteered for the Royce Center in Savannah. She attended Jonesville Baptist Church of Savannah, GA.
Ms. Sapp loved Savannah, GA and would never leave it too long wherever her career would take her. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a strong advocate for the rights of children and hated injustice. She would easily take a pen and write congressmen and other high officials if she thought it would make a difference. She was an avid reader and loved reading and studying the bible and would love to discuss the scriptures with her son.
Ms. Sapp leaves behind to cherish her memories her son, Bart Hunter (Rose) of Savannah, and a daughter, Carla Hunter Sapp of Port Wentworth, GA. Granddaughters Kimberly Reed, Christina Hunter- Harley (Jermel), Gia M. Pierce, and one grandson, Salim A. Sapp of Oklahoma City, OK. Great grand-children Destin Etheridge, Ja'Niya Harley, Kenya Golson, and Monet’ Golson. She is also survived by her sisters Mary L. Wilder of Savannah, Elizabeth T. Maitland of Hartford, Connecticut, Margie Thomas of Simi Valley, CA, Louise Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Helen Irene McKiever of Savannah, and one brother, David Lee Thomas of Hilton Head, SC. A host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Adams Funeral Services on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 from 1:00 P.M.- 2:00 P.M. for close relatives.
