Reflection of Her Life

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.  And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

John 14:1-4

Earnestine was born to Myrtle May Robinson and James Cotton in Savannah, Georgia on September 23, 1942. During her formative years, Earnestine attended Woodville Elementary School, and Tompkins High School where she participated in the Tompkins High School Marching Band as a majorette. It was at Thompkins where she met the love of her life, Joseph Lloyd (Jimmy), also a member of the Marching Band.  After graduation in 1962, they married and started a family.

She began her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She worked in many capacities and retired after 34 years of service from Riverview Health and Rehabilitative Services.

Mother Lloyd, as she was affectionately known by many, was a woman of God.  She was baptized at the age of six at Townsley Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served faithfully for over 60 years.  She was a member of the Scott Choir, The Women’s Missionary Society, the Deaconess Board and President of the Pastor’s Aid Board.  She transferred her membership to St. Mary’s A.M.E. Church where she continued to serve as the President of the Local Lay Organization, and was a 2017 Delegate to the A.M.E. General Conference in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Earnestine co-founded New Birth Community of Faith, a weekly praise and worship ministry hosted at her home for over 15 years.  She prepared and served weekly meals for the residents of the Inner City Night Shelter and touched so many lives in the Savannah community.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle May Robinson and James Cotton; brother, Freddie Robinson, Sr.; and daughter, Chanel Lloyd.  She is survived by a loving husband, Joseph L. Lloyd; three children, Anthony Lloyd, Kerri Lloyd Reid (Diharra), and Joseph M. Lloyd, (Cierra); six grandchildren, Anthony M. Lloyd, Kennedy Reid, Josiah Lloyd, Kayla Reid, Kyla Reid, and Diharra Reid, Jr.; she also leaves behind an aunt, Francina Edwards (Robert); two siblings, Mary Ann Robinson and Arthur Lee Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
