Mrs. Delores Hardwick

Adams announces the passing of Mrs. Delores B. Hardwick, 85, who transitioned on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

Delores Marie Burns Hardwick, was born on July 6, 1935 in Savannah Georgia, to Mr. Daniel Burns, Sr. and Mrs. Jennie W. Burns.  She went home to glory on July 7, 2020.  She joined First Bryan Baptist Church at an early age and was active in various church organizations and activities.

Delores was educated in public schools of Savannah.  She graduated from Alfred Ely Beach High School in 1953.  She further her education at Savannah State College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in 1958 and at University of New York earning a Masters of Arts in Education 1967.  She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter.

Delores devoted 33 years to educating and counseling children in the Savannah Chatham County School System, retiring July 1992.  Delores volunteered her time with a number of organizations and received numerous awards; from the Savannah Schools Federal Credit Union, National Association of Federal Credit Unions, Chatham County Seniors and Law Enforcement Together, Savannah Speech and Hearing Center, Chatham County Adult Education Program and East Broad Street Elementary School.  She received the Annual Golden Rule Award for her dedication to the welfare of others.

Her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Daniel Burns Sr., her brother, Daniel L. Burns Jr. and her grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Milton proceeded her in death.     “Dee” as she was affectionately called, will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Her memory will be cherished by her siblings, Laura Dell (Robert) Ward of Vacaville CA; Richard (Shelia) Burns, of Fayetteville NC.; Inez (Vernell) Gainey of Savannah, GA., Veda Burns of Missouri City, TX, Dr. Vera Burns of Atlanta, GA, Ronnie (Valjean) Burns and Wendell Burns of Savannah GA.  Along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  A special friend Lorenzo Bryant.
