OBITUARY

Born December 11, 1943 in Bluffton, SC to the late Sarah Jenkins Middleton and Clatties Frazier, Sr. She was later united in holy matrimony to the late Jack Brown, Jr (JB) of Bluffton, SC.

Claretha (Ree aka Retha) received her formal education in the Beaufort County School System. She loved cooking, decorating, and cleaning, but most of ALL, her family.

Like the idiom goes “behind every great man there is a great woman” JB was the brain/bronze/muscle/owner and Ree was the brain/administrator/accountant, etc. of their businesses. She managed the “businesses” exhibiting diplomacy and tact, professionalism, trust, finesse, and her inherent skills: leader with a dose of empathy.

Claretha was proceeded in death by her husband Jack Brown, Jr; her parents Sarah J. Middleton and Clatties Frazier, Sr; grandparents Lottie F. Bruin (like a mother) and Abraham Frazier and Queenie & Alphonso Jenkins; mother-in-law Hattie Brown; siblings Myers Frazier, Ethel Heyward, June Heyward, and like a sister Vivian “Bibba” Jenkins.

She is survived by one daughter Debbie Frazier, and a sister she raised as a daughter, Genevive Boykin of Norfolk, VA; one grandson Ja’Karii, godson Franklin Fields, devoted sisters: Mariah Fields of Bluffton, Betty Haskins (Michael) of Beaufort, SC; brothers: Willie Chaplin(Shirley) and Clatties Frazier, Jr both of Beaufort SC; 100+ year old grand uncle Ed Pinckney of Beaufort. Loving caregivers and extended family Stephanie A. Adams and Mary Roberts who literally carried my mother through her final journey physically and emotionally. Special friend Richard J. Bolden of Bluffton SC; sisters-in-law: Laura(Joe) Speaks of Bluffton, SC and Mary Tatem of Boston, MA. Brothers-in-law: Frankie Brown, Sr (Ann), Boston and Redmond Brown of Bluffton, SC, and like a brother Frank Best of Savannah, GA. Though all nieces can’t be mentioned, there are a few that must be given attention: Juanita J. Cleveland(and God granddaughter Kiki), Barbara Jenkins, Karen Parker, Wanda Hlusek, Ruth B Capers, Anna Harman of Columbia SC, Joyce Elaine Bruin of Bluffton SC, and Brielle Mitchel of Beaufort SC; and special nephew Tyler Carson of Charlotte NC. A host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Special thanks to: Luci Mitchell, Lucille Jones, Polly Frazier, Denolis Polite of Bluffton SC, Mary Jenkins (Bill), Rosetta and Venetia Franklin of Savannah, GA.
