Reflections of Betty
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith: ~2 Timothy 4:7
On May 24, 2020, Sister Betty Truell Grant obtained her wings at 79 years of greatness at her residence in Pooler, GA peacefully with family. She is now with her parents, Mr. Robert and Carrie Truell.
Betty was born May 3, 1941 in Savannah, Georgia. She was educated in Chatham County Public School System at Sophronia M. Tompkins High School. She also supported her family by working at Memorial Hospital, Coastal Chemical, Johns Manville, and the City of Savannah. Not only was she a hard worker, but she was also athletic as a proud softball player of the Whipperettes of West Savannah Community. In her early years, she became a member of Central Baptist Church in Hitch Village under the leadership of Reverend William Daniels where she served in the #2 Choir. Later in life, she moved her membership to New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Tony Reddick where she served on the Usher Board and assisted with the Pastors Aid Board until she started experiencing health complications. In 2016, she was dedicated as an Honorary Mother of the Church. In addition to all her accolades, Betty was mostly known for her compassionate spirit to cook a meal for anyone and dancing. Ultimately, she believed in giving others her last and going above and beyond for her grand kids.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Clarence “Cool Blue” Grant; siblings: Leo Barnwell, Willie Butler, Robert Truell, Jr., Rosena Dempsey, and Bernita LaFrance; son, Clarence “Bubba Cool” Grant; step-son, Shawntray Grant; daughter-in-law, Gail Arkwright Grant; brothers-in-law: Eugene Grant and George Dempsey; special aunt, Evelyn Hood; and special niece, Thomasena Gusby (Jesse Lee); grandson-in-law, Donald Green.
