Adams announces the passing of Mr. Sam Rivers, Sr., 97, who transitioned on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Adams announces funeral services for Mr. Sam Rivers, Sr. which will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 22, 2019 at Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church.

Interment: Beaufort National Cemetery.

Viewing: 10 A.M.-6 P.M., Thursday at the funeral home.

OBITUARY:

On January 4, 1922 Sam “Bubba” Rivers, Sr. was born to Mr. Caesar Rivers, Sr and Mrs. Nellie Shepard Rivers in Harteville, South Carolina. Sam spent most of his early years in South Carolina before moving to Savannah, GA where he carried out the remainder of his life.  He married the love of his life, Minnie Lee Milledge on March 29th1964 and they lived out their life together before her passing on May 8, 2003. Through their union, they had four beautiful children. Sam was a member of Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church.

Sam proudly served as a Private in the Army of the United States 432ndPort Company Transportation Corps. He performed duties as a Longshoreman while serving with the 432ndPort Company in the Asiatic-Pacific- Theatre of Operations, where he oversaw a crew of 16 men. Sam received Honorable Discharge in 1946 with the following Declarations and Citations: World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68. Not long following his military discharge, he began working at Vanguard Distributors and worked there up until his retirement in the early 2000’s.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Caesar Rivers, Sr; wife Minnie Lee Rivers; brother Caesar “Uncle Boy” Rivers, Jr.; Sisters, Rosa Lee, Alberta Stewart; Grandson Sammy Lee Rivers.

Left to cherish the memories of Sam’s beautiful life is his surviving family: Son, Sam Rivers, Jr. (Patricia), Betty Rivers, Eunice Rivers and Marilyn Rivers (Larry) all of Savannah; Grandchildren, Tomeca McPherson, Sheba McPherson- Johnson (Darien), Lekeyia McPherson, Latasha Rivers, Carlton Rivers, Laquanna Rivers, and Carla Rivers, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
