Funeral services for Mrs. Verdell German Brown will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 26, 2018 in The Adams Chapel.
Interment: Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
Verdell grew up in Oliver, Georgia. As she navigated to Savannah Georgia she became an active member in the Catholic community. She served the homeless at food pantries. Her influence on her children’s lives were good times and bad, highs and lows, happy days and very sad moments, but her godly influence on her children produced professional health care providers and leaders willing to follow in her steps in helping and serving the communities .
Verdell was a praying mother. She often times would go to her prayer closet and pray for Jesus to take care of all her needs. Verdell was devoted to her dear sister, Ann Wilson. She was proud as she said to have a sister from New York and would always brag about her and “ Pee Wee” and her nephews Kelvin and Ernest.
Verdell prayed about everything. When she found herself slipping away with memory . She prayed about missing where she placed her keys , what street she lived on, and what day it was. But one thing she did know was that Jesus was always with her. She attended prayer groups and had neighbors over from time to time at her house.
Verdell was saturated in prayer . She was so saturated with prayer that we knew that we could never get away with anything that she would not know about later. As children , we would ask how did she know? She would always warn us, “God tells me.” Sometimes it was God but other times it neighbors calling her on the phone when we were outside after 6:00 which was our bedtime. Most kids on the block could stay out side to 8:00pm but mama made us come in early.
Verdell loved to sing gospel songs even though some notes were not quite right but her heart and soul was apart of each spiritual song. Yes you could hear the sound of heaven touching earth.
Mom dedicated her life to her children and to the Lord. Each of Mom’s children were taken to church and dedicated to the Lord.
As we Celebrate The Life of Verdell, there are just a few things that should carry us through, as someone has wisely said,
If you have a smile for Mother, Give it now. If you have a kindly word, Speak it now. She’ll not need it when the angels Greet her at the golden gate; Give the smiles while she is living, If you wait it will be too late.
If you have a flower for Mother, Pluck it now. Place it gently on her bosom, Print a kiss upon her brow. What cares when life is over, For the flowers that bloom below. She will have her share up yonder, Scattered at her feet galore
