Obituary
Tishia “Tish” Mishe Chevez Dobson
“If love could save you, you would have lived forever.”
Tishia “Tish” Mishe Chevez-Dobson was born on January 11, 1969, in Livingston,
New Jersey. She was the daughter of Gloria Golden, Laurence Chevez, and Elias
Golden. Tish and her husband, Stanton Dobson, shared a beautiful marriage that
lasted 31 years. Tish loved Stan so dearly, and so did he. A woman that was known for
her sweetness and giving soul, Tish was a God-fearing woman who managed to
incorporate the Lord into every aspect of her life, and even to other people's’ lives. Tish
was the magic puzzle piece to her family, friends, and to her career. She has fulfilled so
many people through her encouraging words and Godly spirit. The words “I love you,”
flowed easily towards her family and friends. No doubt, to her family and friends, she
was a rare and unique gem.
Tish graduated from Savannah State University with a bachelor’s degree in mass
communication. She then became a passionate educator for the Savannah Chatham
County Public School System for almost 30 years. In the public schools system, she
taught at Johnson High School and Savannah Chatham E-Learning Academy. She also
taught as an Adjunct Professor at South University and Columbia College and was a
professional writing tutor at Savannah State University and Savannah Technical
College. Tish loved her jobs as a teacher and writing tutor and was recognized at each
of her stations as being an excellent educator and colleague. She spent many hours
preparing for her classes and courses, helping her students, reassuring parents, and
assisting her co-workers. Students and faculty colleagues loved chatting with Tish as
she was consistently kind, encouraging, resourceful, helpful, and sincere. If there was a
project be completed, Tish was the person you wanted on your team!
Tish had an immense passion for creative writing and teaching English
composition. She particularly enjoyed writing and reading Christian, fantasy, and
science-fiction genres, and also spent long moments reading and memorizing scripture.
Tish channeled her passion for the creative arts and in 2010 received a MFA in creative
writing from National University. She wrote a Christian novel and was revising it for
publication.
Tish joined St. Paul CME Church in Savannah, Ga. She enjoyed attending
services and said that the preaching helped her to grow spiritually. She received Jesus
Christ as Savior and worked hard at living and displaying the precepts of her Christian
faith. She also developed her relationship with Christ as a student in the local chapter
of Bible Study Fellowship (an international organization) and through personal bible
studies with friends.
Tish transitioned on February 8, 2023. Tish leaves behind her husband, Stanton
Dobson, of 31 years, her two children Stanton Dobson Jr. and Bhrea Dobson. She
leaves behind her mother, Gloria Golden, her father, Laurence Chevez, her sister, Thea
Bulloch (Schae Bulloch) and her brother, Giovanni Golden. She also leaves behind her
mother-in-law, Jacquelyn Tyson, and her sister-in-law, Kimberly Dobson (Charles
Adams)— and a host of other relatives and friends.
