Mrs. Mary Ward

Mrs. Mary  Bogan Ward, 84, transitioned on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Thunderbolt Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Alice Bogan Ward was born on August 12, 1932 in Savannah, GA. She passed on May 3, 2017 at the age of 84. Her parents were Walter Jennings Bogan and Ethel Sawyer Bogan. She attended public schools in Savannah and graduated from Savannah State College (now University) and Atlanta University. She also attended UCLA.

Mary was a public school teacher in Liberty County, GA where she additionally coached championship winning girls basketball teams. Mary taught for the Los Angeles Unified School District in California and retired as the Assistant Principal of Mark Twain Junior High School.

She was a Eucharistic Reader and choir member of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church (Savannah) and St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Parish (Savannah). Mary was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and The Smart Set Social Club.

She leaves to remember her and mourn her passing her loving family: husband, Henry B. Ward (Savannah); daughters, Beryl C. Ellis (Savannah) and Alexis A. Martinez (California); son, Alex M. Ellis (Savannah); grandson, Alex J. Ellis (Los Angeles, CA); sisters, Kathryn B. Johnson (Tybee Is.) and Dorothy B. LaSaine (Montgomery, AL); brother, Walter J. Bogan, Jr. (Guttenberg, N.J.); nephews, John T. LaSaine, Jr., Edward S. Gaston, Marlin W. Johnson, Jr., and Geoffrey D. Johnson. Mary will be deeply missed by her extended family members and many friends including her long-time friends, the TAGs (Teen Age Girls), from Beach High School (Savannah).

Visitation will be on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Adams Funeral Home – 1-3 p.m. -   The interment will be private.
