Julia Riley Young, 92, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at her residence under United Hospice Care surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral service for Mrs. Julia Riley Young will be held 12:00PM, Saturday, October 19, 2013 at St. John Baptist Church ""The Mighty Fortress"" located 522-28 Hartridge St., Reverend Dr. George P. Lee, III, Pastor. Rev. Willie C. Rice of Masadonia Baptist Church, Eulogist.
Public viewing will be held 10:00AM-6:00PM Friday, October 18, 2013 at the funeral home.
Interment: Bonaventure Cemetery/ Greenwich Section.
Mrs. Riley will lie in serenity at the church beginning 10:00AM until the hour of service.
Obituary:
Mrs. Julia Riley Young was born April 17, 1921 on Daufuski Island, South Carolina to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Riley. She was introduced to God at an early age. Julia was baptized in the Cooper River by the Pastor of Union Baptist Church on Daufuski Island. After moving to Savannah, she joined First Friendship Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Macedonia Baptist Church under Pastor Willie C. Rice, Jr.
Julia met and married Leroy Young who preceded her in death. After many years of dedicated service, she retired from National Linen Service. ""Dog Catcher"" or ""Ci-Ci Rider"" as she was affectionately called was famous for her delicious cooking and southern Sunday meals. Julia always had a compassionate heart and an open door policy to anyone in need. She was always willing to give even if it was her last (the negotiator).
She was preceded in death by Lucille Riley (daughter), Cassandra Riley (granddaughter), Jean Scarborough Yancey (granddaughter), and her siblings Rosa Lee Riley (sister), John Riley (brother), Joseph Riley (brother), William Riley Sr. (brother), Cecilia Riley (sister), and Benjamin Riley (brother).
She leaves a legacy of memories to be cherished by; three sons Nathaniel (Fermecia) Riley Sr., Godfrey Riley, and James Riley. Three daughters Rudell Young, Sandra Young, and Dawnell (Nathaniel) Jackson; One Sister-in-Law Lula Riley; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, 1 great-great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, one special nephew William (Brenda) Riley Jr., and loving caregivers Ms. Shirley Campbell, Ms. Annette, and Miss Amber Alvin.
