Mrs. Ethel Mae King, 97, had her transition on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Mae King will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Tremont Temple Baptist Church, 415 West Park Ave., Reverend Quinton Morris, Pastor.
Instate: 9:30 A.M. until the hour service.
Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery.
Obituary:
MRS. ETHEL MAE KING, THE ONLY CHILD OF MRS.FANNIE MARY (KENT) WOODWARD AND MR. ISSAC JONES WAS BORN JANUARY 1, 1920 IN THE SPRING OF HER LIFE IN THE BEAUTIFUL CITY OF PEMBROKE, GEORGIA.
HER LIFE TOOK MANY TURNS AS GOD AFFORDED HER 97 BEAUTIFUL YEARS. SHE JOURNEYED IN HER PILGRIMAGE ON EARTH WITH BEAUTY AND GRACE. IN HER JOURNEY SHE MARRIED MR. JOSEPH BEATTY AND FROM THAT UNION GOD BLESSED THEM WITH THE JOY OF THEIR LIFE, BETTY BEATTY LLOYD. THIS CHAPTER OF HER LIFE CLOSES WITH MR. BEATTY PRECEEDING HER IN DEATH.
THEN IN THE 1940’S HER JOURNEY MOVED HER TO NEW YORK CITY WHERE SHE WORKED IN THE FIELD OF DOMESTIC ENGINEERING FOR MANY YEARS. SHE VENTURED INTO THE FIELD OF DRYCLEANING WHERE SHE WAS ELEVATED TO THE POSITION OF SUPERVISOR. SHE WORKED UNTIRINGLY IN THE WORK FORCE UNTIL 1980.
WHILE LIVING IN NEW YORK SHE MET AND MARRIED THE LOVE OF HER LIFE, MR. ROBERT “PLUNK” KING. ORDAINED BY GOD THIS UNION LASTED FOR OVER 30 YEARS UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1994.
IN 1980 SHE VENTURED BACK TO THE SOUTH AND SETTLED IN THE BEAUTIFUL CITY OF SAVANNAH GEORGIA WHERE SHE RECONNECTED TO THE CHURCH OF HER EARLY CHILDHOOD, TREMONT TEMPLE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH. IN THE RECONNECTING SHE SERVED FAITHFULLY IN THE #2 CHOIR. SHE WORKED FAITHFULLY IN THE SISTERHOOD AND ATTENDED THE BIBLE STUDY GROUP UNTIL HER HEALTH FAILED.
SHE WAS KNOWN FOR HER LOVE FOR FAMILY AND PEOPLE AND HER ARDENT LOVE FOR KNITTING.
SHE LEAVES MANY MEMORIES AND KIND THOUGHTS TO ALWAYS BE TREASURED. SHE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY:
A DEVOTED DAUGHTER; MRS. BETTY BEATTY LLOYD; THREE GRANDCHILDREN; MS. DIANE JONES; MR. CHASSON (CARLA) LLOYD; MS. CHARISSE LLOYD; FOUR GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND TWO GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. A SPECIAL NEICE, MS. DEBORAH KING-BROWN, AND A HOST OF NEICES AND NEPHEWS.
