Mrs. Ethel Harrison Hunter, 84, had her transition on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Methodist Hospital Sugarland in Sugarland, TX.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Harrison Hunter will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Public viewing will be held beginning 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

A Time to Be Born: Ethel Hunter was born in Bains, Louisiana on August 2, 1932 to the loving union of James and Fannie Harrison, the youngest of ten children.
A Time to Grow: At an early age, Ethel was baptized into the Christian family of Alton Villa Baptist Church of Bains, Louisiana by the Reverend Major Payne. After relocating to Savannah, she joined Butler Presbyterian Church where she served as Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School, organized and conducted confirmation classes, Advisor of Butler’s Explorers, a division of scouting, Advisor for Vacation Bible School and an active participant in the Adult Sunday School since 1972.
A Time to Work: Ethel was a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Association, H.M. Scott Circle, Evangelism Ministry, Community Mission Outreach Ministry and Christian Growth and Nurture Ministry. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was honored as “Soror of the Year” of the Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 2003. She served on the board of directors of Bravo Music, Inc. and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Ethel put her heart and mind into doing for others in a quiet and humble way. She would often say, “We serve God by serving and helping others.” She received her early education at Bains, Louisiana schools where she graduated from Dawson High School in 1952. Later, Ethel received her Bachelors and Masters of Education degrees from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and an Education Specialist degree from Atlanta University, Atlanta, Georgia. Her professional career spanned over a period of thirty-two and a half years of service in education, beginning in West Feliciana Parish, Bains, Louisiana. She retired June 1994 from the Savannah-Chatham County Public-School System.
A Time to Cleave: Ethel was united in marriage to the late Dr. Frissell Roy Hunter of Richmond, Virginia. To this union, two beautiful children were born; Venise Elora and Ivan Frissell. Ethel traveled with her son and his family and spanned the globe to such places as Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Brussels, Belgium, Paris, France, Athens, Greece, Jerusalem, Israel, Rome, Italy, Rio de Janerio, Brazil and Istanbul, Turkey.
A Time of Peace: Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, James and Fannie Harrison; four sisters; Sarah Pickett, Anna Harrison, Mary Samuel and Irene Wilkerson; four brothers; Robert, Wallace, James and Jacob Harrison and her beloved husband, Frissell Roy Hunter. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, two children; Venise Richardson (Ronald) of Houston, Texas and Ivan Hunter (Adsora) of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandsons; Ryan Evan Richardson of Houston, Texas, Frissell Ejiofor and Nyger Marley Hunter of Atlanta, Georgia; also, a loving sister, Emma Coston of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews , cousins, good friends and neighbors.
