Mrs. Doreatha Scott Tyson

Mrs. Doreatha Scott Tyson 71, had her transition Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Candler Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services for Mrs. Doreatha Scott Tyson will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. John Baptist Church ""The Mighty Fortress"". Dr. George P. Lee, III, Pastor.


Mrs. Tyson will lie in serenity in the church beginning at 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service.


Interment: Hillcrest Abbey West on Dean Forest Rd in Savannah, GA.


OBITUARY:
Doreatha S. Tyson was born on July 25, 1944 to the late Wilson and Delma Scott in Savannah , GA. She was called to glory on Saturday, February 27, 2016.


Doreatha's career in Business Education began as a teacher in Darian, Georgia and worked there until she joined her husband in Anchorage, Alaska. When she returned to Savannah, she joined the staff at Savannah State College. During her very long career, she started with the Trio Programs and became the Executive Director of the Educational Talent Search Programs and the Post Secondary Readiness Enrichment Program. She was also the president of the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Programs Personnel (the professional organization that set policy for Trio Programs). She worked more than forty years in Education ending her career as the Director of Access Programs at Savannah State University. She was the recipient of many awards ad involved in many social and civic organizations. Doreatha devoted a lifetime to helping young people from all walks of life, transition from public schools into Institutions of higher learning.

A legacy of love is entrusted to her survivors: five sisters: Mrs. Eleanor Redmond, Mrs. Jacqueline Sanders, Mrs. Eunice Dingle (Henry), Dr. Delma Stell (Ralph), Mrs. Cynthia Williams (Edward) one brother, Pastor Wilson Scott Jr. (Claudette),and other relatives and friends.
