Adams announces the passing of Mrs. Dolores Chisholm Cross, 81, who transitioned on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at her residence with her loving husband and children by her side.
A private viewing and service were held at The Adams Chapel followed by her burial at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery - Glennville 8819 US-301, Glennville, GA 30427. Celebrant: Reverend Romanus O. Ezeugwu from St. Benedict The Moor Catholic Church.
OBITUARY:
Dolores Cross peacefully passed on January 4, 2024, in the city of Savannah, Georgia. She was a lifelong resident of Chatham County and dedicated her life to her family, profession, and community.
Dolores will always be remembered for her remarkable career of 33 years as an esteemed teacher. She imparted her wisdom and knowledge to numerous students throughout the years at Cuyler Middle School, Myers Middle School, Mercer Middle School, Shuman Middle School, Derenne Middle School, Richard Arnold High School, and Beach High School. Dolores's commitment to education left an indelible mark on the lives of all those she taught.
She was a beloved wife and mother, cherished by her family for her unwavering love and devoted care. Dolores leaves behind her loving husband of 59+ years, Fletcher Cross. Her three children, Stanley Cross, Pamela DeFreezer, and Michael Cross, were blessed to have her as a guiding light in their lives.
Family was of utmost importance to Dolores, and she took great delight in her role as a grandmother. Her grandchildren Hayden DeFreezer, Gabrielle DeFreezer, Trace DeFreezer, Trevor Cross, and Eric Cross will forever hold cherished memories of their time spent with her.
Dolores was preceded in death by her mother, Almathia Chisolm (nee Washington). She found solace and strength in her faith, being a dedicated worshipper at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church in Savannah, Georgia since 1964 and was a member of the Legion of Mary. Her spiritual devotion provided her with comfort and serenity throughout her journey.
In moments of leisure, Dolores took pleasure in tending to her garden, cultivating a sanctuary of beauty and tranquility and was a member of the Orchid Society of Savannah. Additionally, she had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and enjoyed exploring and learning about various historical topics. Her passion for history was evident in her extensive collection of literature, which she shared with others to foster an appreciation for the past.
