Mrs. Candis D. Goodwine, 68, transitioned on Friday, April 5, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mrs. Candis D. Goodwine will be held 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Oakland Missionary Baptist Church located 187 Buckhalter Road. Savannah, GA. 31405.

Interment: Magnolia Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7:00 PM-8:00 PM on Friday, April 12, 2013 in the Adams Chapel.

OBITUARY: Mrs. Candis ""Ma"" Goodwine


On Friday, April 5, 2013 God smiled and said Candis Goodwine I am taking you to your eternal resting place in heaven with me. She passed at Memorial University Medical Center surrounded by her loving family and friends. Candis was born July 19, 1944 the second child of the late Harry and Susie Dunham. She was preceded in death also by two brothers Benjamin Dunham and Leon Brown along with two sisters Gladys Moore and Mary Ann Dunham. Candis joined Oakland Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and has always been a loyal and faithful member. She retired from the Chatham County Board of Education in 1991 where she worked for 31 years. She married Mr. Charles Goodwine and to this union five children were born two sons Tommy (Gail) Goodwine and Charles (Yolonda) Goodwine Jr, of Atlanta, GA three daughters Janice McCound, Joyce Greene and Brenda (Terry) McCombs. She also had a very special nephew, Darryl (Cynthia) Dunham Sr. whom she raised as her very own son. Ma is survived by two brothers: James Moore and Walter Brown three sisters Shirley Brown, Betty Brown and Helen Brown, three aunts Annette Moore, Louise (Tommy) Grant, and Mildred (Alonzo) Brown, two sisters in law Naomi Ferguson and Lula (Sammy) Mitchell. Other family members include 16 grandchildren (2 preceded her in death), 23 great grand children, 5 nephews, 5 nieces and a host of cousins other relatives and friends. Candis was the caregiver for Mr. John Thomas for many years. She also leaves to cherish her memory a very special friend Roosevelt Brown.
