Mrs. Bessie M. Blake, 79, had her transition on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie M. Blake will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. Philip Monumental AME Church.
Public Viewing will be held from 10 A.M.- 6 P.M., Friday, February 10, 2017 at the funeral home.
Interment: Greenwich Cemetery.
OBITUARY:
Bessie Mae Blake entered a state of eternal rest on February 4, 2017, while at St.
Joseph/Candler hospital. She was born on July 7, 1937 in Savannah, Georgia to Mary Sterling
and the late Richard Sterling. Bessie is a graduate of Beach –Cuyler High School. Following
high school, she matriculated at Savannah Technical Institute, currently Savannah Technical
College.
Bessie married James Blake Jr, who proceeded her in death and from this union six
children were born; Joseph, Elijah Donald, Ronnie, Denise, Juanita, and Willis.
Bessie was a fiercely independent spirit and walked to her own drum beat. Her faith in
God was resolute. Bessie was baptized at the Second Saint Luke Baptist Church in Savannah
Georgia. She continued her Christian experience as a missionary at the Pentecostal Miracle
Deliverance Center. Her Christian experience also included her serving as mother of Land of
Rest Deliverance Ministries, Savannah, Georgia and Faith Temple Holiness Church, Gilford,
South Carolina until her health failed.
Bessie’s ardent love for family and church will always be engraved in our hearts. She
leaves to cherish her memory her mother Mary Sterling, six children: Joseph James Blake, Elijah
Donald Blake, Ronnie (Runella) Blake, Denise Brown, Juanita Johnson, and Willis Blake all of
Savannah, GA; 27 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren; one sister Doris (Arthur) Frazier of
Savannah, GA; one brother Gary Sterling of Sydney, Australia; special family members
Nathaniel and Sarah Mitchel, Betty Gerrald, Flossie Mitchell all of Savannah, Georgia, a host of
nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
