Adams announces funeral services for Ms. Barbara Ann Martin-Golden which will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, February 27, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church located 8412 Whitefield Ave, Savannah, GA 31406.
Visitation will be held from 2 PM - 4 PM, Sunday, February 26, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church- 8412 Whitefield Ave, Savannah, GA 31406.
Interment: Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers consider making contributions to St. James Catholic Church in memory of Ms. Barbara Martin-Golden as they prepare to set up a scholarship fund in her honor.
OBITUARY
On Monday February 20, 2023 at 3:00am, our dear sister Barbara Ann Martin-Golden was called by God to rest. She lived 71 years dedicating her life and heart to God, serving as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, educator, family member, friend, confidant, advisor and advocate.
A Savannah native, Barbara grew up in First Bryan Baptist Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Benedict’s Parish, and St. James Catholic Church. Barbara was educated in the Catholic Diocese of Savannah having attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and St. Pius X High School. She is a graduate of Savannah State University with further graduate work in education at Armstrong Atlantic State University.
She gave the world her talents by teaching 48 years in the Catholic Diocese of Savannah at St. Mary’s Parochial School in 1975 and at St. James Catholic School from 1977 until 2023.
She is preceded into Heaven by her great grandparents Nola and William Spivey, and David and Daphne White; her grandparents Inez Smith, Colin Smith, Roman Washington, Sr. and Peter Bryan; her uncles Roman Washington, Jr. and Benjamin Graham. Her Heavenly family also has her devoted mother Delores W. Bryan, her father Reginald C. Bryan, and her brother Reginald T. Bryan.
She leaves a family behind loving her dearly: two aunts Bernese Graham and Isabel Hudson, her brother Tyrone Bryan (Karen), her sisters Narvia Williams (Barney) and Dr. Dianetta G. Bryan, and sister-in-law Ann Rhett. Dearest to her heart her loving daughter Katrina A. Martin, and her dedicated son William E. Martin IV., 3 delights of her life grandchildren Diamond Jones, Damascus Chambers, Jr., and Alivia Destiny Martin.
She continues to be loved by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her St. James family of Sisters colleagues, her students, parents of students, her St. Benedict’s family and Pirates House family and friends. Holding her dear in heart are Sr. Joan Felicia and Fr. Joe Smith with special remembrances of Rev. Fred Nijem, Fr. Wellmeyer and Rev. Jim Mayo.
Funeral services are Monday at St. James Catholic Church at 11:00 am with Visitation on Sunday at 2:00pm-4:00pm. In honor of their teacher, Barbara Martin-Golden, St. James has established a scholarship fund. Remembrances are asked to be sent to St. James Catholic School Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.
