Celebrating the Life of Angela Louise Mack Jones Givens
Let your heart not be troubled: ye believe in God believe also in me. (John 14:1)
Angela Louise Mack was born the third child of the late Deacon David Mack, Sr. and Eloise Coleman
Mack on January 24, 1947. She was called home into the arms of the Lord on the morning of March 16, 2023.
She was a loving sister, aunt and an outstanding educator. She had a deep and precious relationship with
uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins, community members, friends and the Henry family of Detroit, Michigan.
Brought up from an early age to love and serve the Lord, Angie was baptized at an early age and joined
Mount Hermon Baptist Church. Later during her residency in Detroit, Michigan, she became an active member
of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school and was the Youth Director for many years,
serving on local, state (Wolverine), and National Baptist Congress of Christian Education. She later joined
Corinthian where she served on the Nurses’ Guild.
Angela grew up in the White Bluff community, she attended Haven Home School, and graduated in
1964 from Sol C. Johnson High School. In 1968, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary
Education from Savannah State College. During her time at SSC, she joined the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Incorporated. Later she earned a Master's Degree from Wayne State University.
In 1970, Angela was employed by the Detroit Public School system. She taught at Roosevelt Warren
Elementary and Bow Elementary School. She was a member of the Social/Decorating Committee. She retired
in 2009 after 39 years of dedicated service in the Detroit Public Schools. After retiring she became a member
of Michigan Association of School Personnel (MARSP) and the Detroit Association of School Personnel
(DARSP). She also served as director on the school board of the Academy of Lathrup Village in Lathrup
Village, Michigan for nine years. Additionally, she was an active member of the Savannah State Alumni
Association of Detroit.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed ballroom dancing, belly dancing, walking 3 miles on the Detroit River
Walk and yoga at St. Patrick Community Center. Line dancing and socializing with family and friends was her
passion. But, her most important and dedicated involvement was serving as mother on the Mother’s Ministry at
Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.

married Leslie Givens.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Deacon David Mack, Sr. and Eloise Mack, sister Lilla Sams,
