Adams announces the passing of Mr. Purdy Bowers, Jr., 79, who transitioned on Sunday, December 13, 2020 under the excellent and professional care of Hospice Savannah.
Purdy Bowers, Jr. passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, December 13, 2020 in the care of Hospice Savannah. He was born on July 21, 1941 to Annie and Purdy Bowers, Sr. He lived a fulfilling and meaningful life as a family man, friend, and a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. He loved watching sports, especially football and basketball. He loved talking politics, and kept informed by watching his favorite television station was MSNBC.
One of his greatest achievements was being among the initial class of black firefighters who integrated the City of Savannah Fire Department in 1963.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years Rosemarie Pelote-Bowers, brother, Wesley Bowers, two daughters, Judge Tammy Stokes (Larry) and Terri Holmes (Reginald) as well as his granddaughters, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
