OBITUARY
Melvin White, was born August 17, 1956, in Savannah, Georgia. He was the fourth child of eight born to the late, James Edward and Elease Aiken White.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward and Elease Aiken White.
Melvin was educated in the public school system of Chatham County, graduating from Alfred Ely Beach High School in 1976.
A servant of the Lord, Melvin joined Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late, Rev Lamar Kelly, where he was a faithful member of the youth choir. He was later under the Pastorship of Rev Franklin Blackshear at Mount Tabor.
After high school, Melvin joined the Military, where he served for three years in the United States Army. After he was honorable discharged from the Army, he worked fifteen years for the Pepsi Distribution Company in Savannah before going to the waterfront in 2009 as a Long Shoreman with ILA Local 1414. He ended his working career as a self-employed cleaning contractor until he was medically disabled in 2014.
On Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 5:25 am the Lord spoke to Melvin and said, “Come unto Me all that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Melvin took his last breath at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, where he had undergone a successful kidney transplant on December 4, 2020. Melvin gave his spirit to the Lord, his Maker, Father and Redeemer and went in peace to be at home with the Lord. The Apostle Paul reminds us in his second letter to the Corinthian church chapter 5 verse 8: “To Be Absent From the Body is to Be Present With the Lord.”
