Adams announces funeral services for Mr. Lorenza King Sexton which will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 7, 2020 at Asbury United Methodist Church located 1201 Abercorn St. Savannah, GA 31401.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M., Thursday, February 6, 2020 in The Adams Chapel.
Interment: Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Lorenza King Sexton was born on May 31, 1925, in Savannah, GA to the late Charlie Oscar Sexton and Agnes Bell Sexton. His brothers Charlie and Henry Sexton and godson Lorenza Baker proceeded his death. Lorenza was educated in his local neighborhood schools such as Florence Street School, Cyler, and Beach High School. He would later attend Clark College of Atlanta. Lorenza is a graduate of the American Academy of Embalming and Mortuary Research. Lorenza is also a military veteran, serving in the United States Navy from 1943-45.
Lorenza is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Mary Chatman Sexton. Later in life, he was married to Yvonne Stevens Sexton. He moved to Hampton, VA in 1996 for several years and returned to Savannah in 2008. He is a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he served as a member of the choir, adult fellowship, and chair of the administrative board. In the community, Lorenza was a senior member of the Mutuals Benevolent Society. He was also very active with the Beach High School Class of 1946 and routinely worked with the staff of Adams Funeral Home.
Lorenza began his career as a mortician in 1949 under the tutelage of the late Mr. George C. Williams of Williams and Williams Funeral Home. He would later co-found the Sexton-Hall Funeral Home and retire in 1994. In 1991 he was named Undertaker of the Year.
Lorenza has touched many lives over the years and is now comforted by his family. His niece Mrs. Cassandra S. Norton (Eazell), sister-in-law Mrs. Zenobia Sexton, adopted children Latricia and Clyde Newton and Bruce Adams, godchildren LeShea and Anthony Newton, Bruce Simmons, Altheria Maynard, special nieces Andrea King and Donna Laughinghouse of NY, with a host of friends and neighbors.
