Adams announces the passing of Mr. Leroy Dupree, Jr., 81, who transitioned on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Candler Hospital.
Graveside Service: 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 8, 2018, Magnolia Memorial Gardens.
On November 14, 1936 God blessed this world with Leroy Dupree Jr. Leroy was born in Savannah, Georgia to Leroy Dupree Sr. and Alice Dupree. Leroy was educated throughout the Georgia Education system. After completing high school Leroy traveled to New York City for a summer vacation with his Aunt. Who knew during that summer vacation Leroy would meet the women he would marry and have eight children with? That summer Leroy met Geraldine Holmes.
Leroy wanted to make a difference and bring change to the world, so without hesitation he enlisted in the Airforce to fight in the Vietnam war. After his time in the Airfoce, Leroy returned home to his wife and two children at that time. Adjusting back to civilian life Leroy got a job as a Postal worker with the New York City Postal Services. This job provided him with a great living to take care of his wife and 8 children.
Leroy was a man of many strengths and wonderful characteristics, whether that was cooking, hosting family events and gatherings, being an amazing father and a caring and loving grandfather. Leroy is preceded in death by mother Alice Dupree and father Leroy Dupree Sr. His sister Edna, his late wife Geraldine Dupree, daughters Lottie Dupree, Marie Dupree, Alice Williams and Carolyn Vaughn and son Gerald Dupree. He is survived by his sisters, Emily, Elizabeth and Barbara. His daughter Louise Furlonge, sons Michael Dupree and Leroy Dupree III. His eleven grandchildren, great children and a host of nieces and nephews.
Leroy has lived an amazing life and have always been generous to those around him, but on March 5, 2018 God called him home. As much as he was loved and needed here on Earth, God needed him more. Remember to celebrate Leroy’s life and legacy as he is finally free and home!
