Mr. Lafayette Cook was born to Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Cook and Fred Cook on November 4th, 1939 in Savannah, GA. He was a graduate of Tompkins High School class of 1958. He was joined in holy matrimony to Mable Thomas on June 9, 1960. Together they raised seven children, 4 boys and 3 girls – Velma, Marcus, Jacqueline, Karen, Lafayette, Jr., Michael, and Kevin.

He was employed with Memorial Medical Center for 35 years where he worked is way up from an orderly to the Operations Manager at the Clark Center. He retired from Memorial Medical in 1996, then worked at L’Oréal Distributing for 10 years until he finally retired.

An avid fisherman, he spent most weekends fishing and crabbing. He started the tradition of the “Annual Family Fish Fry” the first weekend of November to celebrate his birthday and more importantly, to celebrate family and friends… a tradition that lasted over some 50 plus years.

He was preceded in death by his father Fred Cook, Mother Elizabeth Williams Cook, Sister Frances Wheatley, Brother Allen Simpson.

He leaves behind to honor his memory his wife, Mable Cook, 7 children, Velma Prescott of Savannah GA, Marcus Cook (Cheryl ) of Savannah GA, Jacqueline Early (Larry) of Savannah GA, Karen Bell (Clarence) of Columbia MD, Lafayette, Jr., (Monique) of Texas, Michael Cook (Jeanette) of Atlanta GA, and Kevin Cook (Pam) of Texas, Brother James Simpson (Geneva), 15
