Adams announces the graveside service of Mr. Joseph Alexander Baker, III which will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 23, 2021.
Viewing will be held from 4 P.M. - 6 P.M., Friday, January 22, 2021 at the funeral home via our drive-thru.
OBITUARY
Joseph Alexander Baker III, affectionately known as Bubby, was born on September 18, 1949. He was the only son of Joseph A. Jr and Eloise D. Baker. His parents raised him in a loving home in the East Savannah community. Joseph accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was a lifelong member of Central Missionary Baptist Church of Thunderbolt, GA.
Joseph was educated in the Savannah Chatham County Public School System. After graduating in 1969, he joined the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. While enlisted he received several medals of honor and was honorably discharged in 1972.
In September of 1972, Joseph was joined in holy matrimony to Barbara Ann Robinson. To this union two beloved daughters were born, Erica and Lauren. After being discharged from the Army, he was employed by the Chatham County Board of Education in the maintenance department for a number of years.
Joseph made his transition from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 17, 2021 while hospitalized at Candler Hospital. He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph A. Jr. and Eloise D. Baker; his eldest daughter, Erica D. Baker; and two grandsons, Kendall A. Williams and Jordan A. Lewis.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Barbara R. Baker; two daughters, Joi J. Baker of Kernersville, NC and Lauren N. Baker-Newton (Antonio) of Savannah, GA; five grandchildren, Celeste R. Mckiver, Jaylin A. Baker, Amari D. Butler, Ayrica D. Butler, and Devyn J. Edwards; one aunt and family matriarch, Janie B. Bowers; one sister, Carzadean B. Harris (William) of Savannah, GA; one brother, David Brown of Savannah, GA; two special cousins with whom he was raised, Lynette B. Ward Bridges of Savannah, GA and Marilyn J. Baker of Edgewood, Maryland; special friend, Eugene Broomfield of Miami, FL; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
