A Time to be Born:

John Henry Johnson Jr. was born in Savannah, Georgia on April 8, 1954 to the late John Henry Johnson, Sr. and Eloise Marie Wilson Johnson.  He was the younger of two children.  His father preceded him in death.  Although John was 5 when his parents separated, he was a happy child.  He always kept a close bond with his father throughout the years.  When his father moved to New York City, the distances between the two still did not keep them from writing letters to one another, keeping up with the times of life and family growth.  A male figure was forever present within his family.  His grandfather, Shad Wilson, was now his role model as he grew up into adulthood.  He was surrounded by much love from his grandfather, mother, aunt, sibling, and cousins.  There were family morals, values, rules, rewards, and consequences in this spiritual household.

Through the Years:

While growing up in his community, he played street ball with family and friends as well as other things children did during that time.  He also played on various ball teams in his community that competed with other teams around town.  He was a bit mischievous and rambunctious and would sometimes test his boundary limits.

His mother, Eloise, a very talented and inventive person started him out in elementary school along with his sibling and cousins as entrepreneurs.  Every Saturday, the Wilson Clan went into the neighborhoods (Rossingnol Hill, Dimry Bottom, Wheat Hill Road, Cooper Lane, and the Five Mile Bend), selling bags of popcorn, at .05 cents each and delicious candied apples at .10 cents each.  A portion of the proceeds went towards starting each of us a weekly savings account.

John was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age.  His spiritual guidance was under the leadership of Pastor Robert Sweet of the Clifton Baptist Church.

He was educated in the Chatham County Public School System and graduated from Groves High School in 1971.  He continued his education with secondary technical training.  After completing his training, he started his career job with the HT Beasley & Sons Stucco Company.

He served in the Air Force Branch of the military from 1976 until 1979, receiving an honorable discharge.

He loved his family and was unselfish.  He helped them and others when needed and when he could.  He supported his family with positive comments and encouragement.

John met and married a young lady in his community Marie Robins, in 1982.  To this union three sons blessed their household, Jonathan, Jarrod, and Markis.   Johnny was always very active in the community.  He had a sense of humor that would bring out smiles and laughter in people.  John liked to fish, bowl, play basketball and lastly but not least, he was good at shooting pool.  After he became disabled, he assisted his community with the bus stop safety of the kids.  As a man, Johnny believed in God whole heartily.  He fought hard for family and friends and for what he believed in.

On Wednesday morning, October 30, 2019, John Henry Johnson, Jr. transitioned peaceably to the voice of Jesus.  He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Eloise M. Johnson, 3 children: Jonathan M. Johnson, Jarrod M. Johnson, and Markis Johnson from his previous marriage to Marie Johnson, sister: Bonnie L. Young, grandchildren: Ja’Niyah Smalls, Ja’On Johnson, and Ja’Marion Warner, aunt: Rosa B. Walker, uncle: Jimmie Roberson, niece, Nakia Young, nephew: Charles L. Young, Jr., grandnephew: Michael X. Howard and a host of relatives and friends.
