Adams announces the Funeral Services for Mr. Jessie Jenkins, 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 30, 2018 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Interment: Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
Mr. Jessie “Kit” Jenkins, 92, peacefully departed this life after a brief illness Thursday, March 22, 2018 at his home with his family by his side in Savannah, Georgia. He was the son of the late Kit and Lula Jenkins (Haynes). Jessie was an only child born August 28, 1925 in Allendale, South Carolina.
At an early age he attended Allendale County Public Schools until his family fell upon difficult times, having to leave school early in order to help support his family. Shortly after he relocated to Savannah, GA. Jessie was employed by CSX Railroad formally known as “Seaboard Coast Line Railroad,” where he worked dutifully for 44 years before retiring in 1985.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to his loving wife, Mrs. Arnita Lee Jenkins (Knight), who preceded him in death on November 19, 2017. This union was blessed with seven children. A daughter, Pamela Haley, preceded him in death.
The call for spiritual guidance and nurturing led to Jessie joining Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he was an active member serving faithfully on the Usher Board until ill health. As a result of his generous spirit, calm demeanor, and pleasant personality, he was loved by many. His influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him.
Jessie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed helping others and spending his leisure time attending church testifying before God, and with his children and grand-children, who affectionately called him “Dad-Day.” He simply adored his family and friends.
His life and memories will forever be cherished in the lives of his children and family, four sons, Kenneth Smith, Michael A. Smith, Ricky D. Smith (Linda) all of Savannah GA, and Earl Dalton, Jacksonville NC; two daughters, Ms. Angela D. Frazier and Mrs. Gwendolyn Jones (Willis), both of Savannah, GA; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Walker, Savannah, GA, Ms. Priscilla Knight, Chicago, IL, and Ms. Elizabeth Davis, Savannah, GA; Seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
