Eugene Prince Woods, Jr, was born July 26, 1930 in Savannah, GA to the late Eugene Woods, Sr. and the late Viola Mitchell Woods. On December 15, 2020 at 6:00 AM, Gene was called to his spiritual home, and God placed his memory in our hearts so we can remember his love for the Lord, his kindness, and his calm disposition.
Eugene received his early education in the Chatham County Public Schools and attended Beach High School. He enlisted in the Air Force at the age of seventeen and received basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. His military duties required extensive travel throughout southeast Asia. Gene served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and retired at Edward Air Force Base in California with twenty-four years of service.
After his military retirement, he enrolled and graduated from Sawyer College School of Design and Merchandising in California. Gene had many interests such as marketing management, painting techniques, designs, and color displays. There were other area that peaked with interest such as contemporary art, structural design, research and experimentation, and electronics.
In 1980, Gene moved to Warner Robins, GA, later he was employed as a technician at Warner Robins Air Force Base. With adventure and traveling in his bones, Gene moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1999. In New Mexico, he served as a Technical Instructor for more than ten years. Gene had a strong desire to help children, therefore he worked with the Wise Men and Women Program to provide educational assistance through the La Mesa and Duranes Elementary School District.
Eugene attended Davis Ark Baptist Church where his youngest brother, Rev. Herman M. Woods is the pastor and he also attended Bible study classes at Savannah Square Retirement Center. Gene lived a quiet and peaceful life, he loved to talk about his travels and the interesting people he met on his life journey. His Mother taught him to appreciate his surroundings, have good work ethics, and to value his family. He loved his family and often communicated with them through E-mails and phone calls.
He is survived by two brothers, Edwin C. Woods (Denise) of Warner Robins, and Pastor Herman M. Woods, Sr. (Clara), of Savannah; a sister-in-law, Doreather of Savannah; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
