Alexander Harold Cromartie, Jr was born to Alexander who preceded him in death and Mary Cromartie, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. "Lil Alex" as he was affectionately called, had a wonderful spirit. Alex was silly, funny, observant, rambunctious, a jokester and most importantly, a family man.  Alex also had a creative side. He was an aspiring rapper. He was also a fighter. Being born with Sickle Cell, through crises, pain and strife, he pressed through it all. Alex lived life to the fullest. He was rarely deterred from what he wanted or had to do. It might not have looked right to you, but if he felt it, believed it and most importantly, thought it was needed, he did it with love and conviction.

Alex was very supportive. He followed his sister Kay and brother-in-law Steve to their in-country duty stations to help out. He loved all his siblings and had a special connection with each of them. He was also loving and devoted to all his family members and had a very special relationship with each of his aunts/uncles, nieces/nephews, cousins and especially his Nana. As a son, he was stalwart. Regardless of whether he agreed with what was said or done, he was always there when needed.

Alex graduated with his high school diploma from Benjamin Franklin Fitness Academy in Philadelphia in 2002. Being very aware of the disease in his body, he cried on the day of his graduation. When asked "Why are you crying?", he said "I lived to see it, I made it!" Well, he did that and then some.

He was a devoted, loving and supportive father to his two sons, Nasih and Nazir. He absolutely loved his boys to the moon and back. Regardless of the amount of pain he was in, he found the strength to devote time to them. He also adored their mother, Tye.

Alex had an infectious smile and a hearty belly laugh. He was a charmer. His smile made you smile. Possessing a warm heart and a giving nature, Alex loved the Lord. He knew where his help came from and called on God often. The last thing he said to his mother was, "Can we do the 23rd Psalm together?", his favorite scripture:

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

He leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths

of righteousness for His name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me;

Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine

enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

One of the most memorable things about Alex was his love of cinema and songs. He was able to recite the song "Gaston" from Beauty and the Beast, verbatim, as well as countless other famous songs and sayings.

All who knew him have special memories of him. He leaves to mourn his mother, Mary Cromartie, two sons Nasih and Nazir and the mother of his children Altyviese Ward, his sisters and brothers: Sheila, Kerrieum, Ka'Lee and Terance, his grandfather "Pop" Alexander Cromartie and his grandmother "Nana"  Mary Lee Jones, various nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Alex will surely be missed. His family, after grieving his loss, will rejoice because, "To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8
