Mr. Ulysses Mitchell, Sr., 81, had his transition on Friday, March 31, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services for Mr. Ulysses Mitchell, Sr. will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Paul Baptist Church located 624 Waters Ave., Rev. Chester Ellis, Pastor.

Public Viewing: 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Friday at the Funeral Home.

Interment: Hillcrest Abbey East.

Bro. Ulysses “Lark” Mitchell, Sr. was born September 22, 1935 to the late Evelina Mitchell and William Singleton; he was the sixth of eleven children. He attended Chaplain Elementary School and Robinson Jr. High School of Hilton Head, South, Carolina.

Bro. Mitchell was predeceased by his sisters Anna Mitchell and Lucille Mitchell Tyler; and brother James Mitchell.

Bro. Mitchell was baptized at the age of 13 years at Historic 1st African Baptist Church, Hilton Head, South Carolina. Upon moving to Savannah he joined Second Arnold Baptist Church, but later joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where he was a devoted and active member until his illness and death.

During his early life he played baseball; the position of catcher for the Hilton Head Bluejays. He was chosen to play professionally until a knee injury sidelined his career.

Bro. Mitchell later moved to Savannah, Georgia where he worked at Armstrong Furniture before moving on to Cooper Service Station. After a while he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but eventually returned to Savannah, Georgia where he briefly worked at Sugar Refinery before settling at International Longshoreman Association Local 1414, where he worked for 40 years before his retirement.

Bro. Mitchell was joined in holy matrimony to the late Warnie Mae Lovett Mitchell in 1957. To that union was born Ulysses (Cynthia) Mitchell, Jr.; Charles T. Mitchell (deceased); Sharon Mitchell; Pamela Brodie; and Carl Mitchell. He is also survived by sons Nathaniel Campfall; and Tommy (Betty) and Michael  (Pam) Aiken; sisters Julia Bailey; Elnora Aikens; brothers William Mitchell, New York, NY; Richard (Ethel) Mitchell; Albert Mitchell; Henry (Brenda) Mitchell and Charles (Lillian) Mitchell, all of Hilton Head, SC.

His half-sisters and brothers include: Evelyn McBride; Alice Singleton; Linda Glover; Ezekiel Singleton; William Singleton; and Nathaniel Singleton.

He also leaves to cherish his  memory15 grandchildren to included Charles Mitchell, Jr.; Christopher Mitchell; McArthur Brodie; Xavier Brodie; Malik Mitchell and Dominick Coney; 10 great grands; several cousins, nieces, nephews; one godson Donald ”Terry” Crawford; good friends Bernard Douse and Charlie Harris; and the Family at ILA 1414.
