Mr. Staffon D Smith, fondly known as "Fonie," passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born on October 17, 1962, in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
A dedicated professional, Mr. Smith enjoyed a distinguished career primarily as a Computer Analyst for the Harford County Government. He also devoted over twenty years to Job Corps, serving in various capacities from Maryland to Gainesville, Florida. His commitment to education extended beyond his work, as he served as a Substitute School Teacher, contributing significantly to the academic pursuits of young people.
Mr. Smith was an accomplished scholar, graduating from Havre de Grace High School in 1980. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from DeVry Institute of Technology. He pursued further education, completing two years toward a Master's degree in Education at Bowie State University. Additionally, he participated in ministerial studies with the Baltimore Conference of the A.M.E. Church.
In his personal life, Mr. Smith was actively involved in his church community, serving as a soloist with several church choirs and teaching Sunday School. His hobbies included reading and engaging in various games, which brought him great joy and relaxation.
Mr. Smith was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and was instrumental in helping young people achieve their goals and further their education, a testament to his dedication to the development of future generations.
He is survived by his mother, Zilpha Presberry Smith; brother, Ralph D. Smith and Trevor Smith (Tihonda); sisters, Denise C. Smith, Julia Bulter (Newson), Tanya Smith; grandmother, Hattie Galloway; and stepfather, Cornelius J. Smith Jr. He also leaves behind numerous cherished nieces and nephews, including Nicholas R. Brown, Michael Watters, Kobie Smith, Damon Shearer, Sulis Shearer, Trevor Smith, Jr., Tyree Smith, Tracey J. Brown, Toniette R. Sumpter, Crystle Bishop, Rajyne Walton, and Tanya Woodson (William).
He is predeceased by his father, Nicholas Ralph Smith; grandmother Essie Edwards Smith and Preston Smith; grandfathers Preston Smith, Russell S. Presberry; niece, Shalontai M. Smith; and uncles, Leonard Presberry, Samuel Pounds, David Mack, Walter Norris, Arthur Robinson, and Preston (Charlie Field) Smith.
Mr. Staffon D. Smith will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his work, his community, and his family. His legacy of service and dedication to others will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
