Nathaniel Craig Jones was born on March 26, 1955 in Savannah Georgia to the late Samuel Jones, Sr and Fairy Bell Jones. He was the fourth of six children.
Nathaniel attended Chatham County Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Alfred Ely Beach High School Class of 1973 (Go Bulldogs!) While at A.E. Beach High School Nathaniel sang in the high school chorus. With his bellowing bass voice, Nathaniel became well known as Bassie! One of his favorite songs to sing with his deep bass voice was "Lord, Lord, Lord, I want you to help me."
Nathaniel continued his education at Savannah State College (now University) where he majored in Industrial Arts. During these formative years Nathaniel perfected his skills as a master carpenter. He began learning those skills by working with his father in the family business, Jones Glazing and Supply Shop. Nathaniel went on to start his own business, Nate's Custom Cabinets. He designed and built custom wood cabinets for local businesses ranging from attorney's offices to beauty salons, as well as kitchen cabinets for private homes.
Nathaniel then seized the opportunity to work for Eastern Airlines at the Savannah Municipal Airport. In this career move Nathaniel was able to travel the country coast to coast and meet people from all walks of life which he enjoyed.
Later in life Nathaniel obtained his commercial driver's license (CDL) and became a Motor Coach Driver and Long Haul Semi-truck Driver (18 wheelers.) Nathaniel told many stories about driving families that filled the motor coaches to family reunions as well as high school students to graduation celebrations at Disney World in Florida. Nathaniel's semi-truck driving years are filled with stories about the dangerous highways and surviving close calls on snowy mountain roads. When he would see families stranded on the side of the road he would often pull over to provide his assistance.
Nathaniel is a lifelong member of the United House of Prayer for All People where he proudly paid his Tithes. He was baptized by Bishop Walter "Daddy" McCullough and continued to be a supportive member.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his father Deacon Samuel Jones, Sr, mother Saint Fairy Bell Jones, and baby sister Gloria Ann Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memories a son Nathaniel Craig Jones, Jr (Dawn), a grandson Nathaniel Craig Jones III, and granddaughter Amethyst Jones. Nathaniel is also survived by his beloved sister who became his caretaker, Saint Voncille Ransom (Apostle Samuel Ransom); three brothers, Samuel Jones, Jr, Joseph Jones, Sr (Roni - deceased) and Thomas Eric Jones, Sr.
Also cherishing Nathaniel's memories are two nephews Thomas Eric Jones Jr, Joseph Jones Jr, and a niece Cassandra Jones. Nathaniel is also missed by close friend Louise Franklin, cousins, other family members, and friends.
