Mr. Louis Jones, a beloved figure in the Woodville community, passed away peacefully on September 20 2024, at the age of 84. Born on September 17, 1940, in Savannah, GA, Louis dedicated his life to his family, his craft, and his community.
A proud graduate of Tompkins High School, Louis spent many years working as a carpenter, well-known for his exceptional skills and the stories that accompanied each piece he built. He retired from the Housing Authority, leaving behind a legacy marked by hard work and dedication. An entrepreneur at heart, he proudly operated Club 10,000 and Hideaway Club, and was a notable member of Junk Yard Dogs, Colt 45, and Lucky Six Social Club.
Louis was not only a craftsman but also a storyteller. He had a unique ability to fill the air with laughter, always ready to share a tale from his life experiences that resonated with family and friends alike. Fridays were special to him, a time to indulge in loaf pound cake surrounded by his children, a simple yet profound ritual that fostered togetherness. His love for country westerns and the Bounce Network kept him entertained, but it was dancing that truly brought him joy, filling his home with warmth and spirited laughter.
The heart of Louis’ world was undoubtedly his family. He cherished his children—Daughters Michelle Jones, Cheryl Gaines (Rodney), Elsie Hopkins, Sheila Manor (Darrell), and Tonia Grady (Ulysses) along with Sons Beau Marshall (Hope), Louis Jones Jr. (Anisa), and Steven Jones (Rakesha). As a proud grandfather of 19 and a great-grandfather of 9, he found immeasurable joy in their accomplishments and the simple moments spent together. Family gatherings were moments he dearly looked forward to, enveloping him in the love that he had so generously given throughout his life.
Louis is preceded in death by his father Ossie Jones and mother Rosa Lee Jones, alongside five siblings: Ruth Grant, Robert Michael Jones Sr., Elsie Jeffries, and Joseph Jones. Their memories continue to be cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.
