Mr. John E. Pyous,Sr., 90, had his transition on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, under the professional care of Heritage Park of Savannah surrounded by his loving family.
John Edward Pyous, Sr, was born on May 24, 1918 in Ridgeland, SC, the son of the late John Pyous and Lila Ellis Pyous. He was educated in the Ridgeland, SC public schools system. In 1939, John married his sweatheart and life partner Marie Adams. To this union, one son, John Pyour, Jr. was born.
Adter more that twenty years of dedicated service to his Country. John retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer (CPO). Je then obtained employment at the Georgia Ports Authority and retired from the Ports after many years there. John was very gifted in building and repairing, and he unselfishly shared this gift with manu of his friends and relatives.
He was a long time member of Shiloh Lodge No. 92 and the Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities, including over thirty-five years as the church's Financial Chairman. He received numerous awards and recognitions, including Past Master's Certificate - Worshipful Master of Shiloh Lodge No. 92, Certificate of Dedicated Service as Council Advisor for the Order of the Knights of Pythagoras, Outstanding Service as Worshipful Master of Shiloh Lodge No 92, Dedicated and Leadership Award from Hubert Taylor 32"", Worshipful Master, Faithful Service for Macedonia Hospitality Club. Certificate of Recognition Award for Individual Services Rendered to Cann Park Neighborhood Association.
John leaves to cherish fond memories, his devoted wife of sixty-nine years, Marie Adams Pyour of Savannah, GA;his beloved son, John E. Pyous, Jr and his wife, Vermelle Johnson Pyour of New Jersey; two grands: Tanya Pyous and Duane Pyous of New Jersey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, masonic brothers, other relatives and friends.
