OBITUARY:
Harry “Buddy” Dean Hudson Jr., age 56, was called home by his Savior on Thursday, July 14th, 2016 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Newnan Georgia, after a long battle with scleroderma. He was surrounded by family and friends.
Harry was born in Savannah, Georgia on October 15th 1959. His parents, Harry Sr. and the late Lucille Marion Hudson introduced him to Saint Philip Monumental AME Church where he spent most of his childhood and young adult years. They resided in the Cloverdale community, where he made many lifelong friends.
Harry was joined in union to Theresa at St. Philip Monumental AME Church on September 5th 1987 and to this union 2 children, Trey and Zuri, were born.
Harry began his early education at St. Mary’s School and graduated from Benedictine Academy in 1977. After his high school graduation, he joined the army where he served into the 82nd Airborne Division. He attended Savannah State College, where he became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He received his BS degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University.
Harry lived a life of service to God and community. He was a member of the Savannah Police Department, the Decatur Police Department, and the Savannah District Attorney’s Office where he was a criminal investigator. His last position of service was with the Fulton County Juvenile Court, from 1997 to his last day of work, July 8th 2016. He worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer and later Probation Supervisor. In addition to his role of supervising a full unit of community probation officers, Harry was a proverbial go-to supervisor for maintaining communication with school administrators from both Fulton County Schools and Atlanta Public Schools. This due to his history of working collaboratively with the Truancy Intervention Project, but more so due to his infectious personality and consistent professionalism displayed when working tirelessly to achieve the best possible outcomes for court involved children. His personality was a key ingredient in the collaborative glue that that existed between the court and many of the community based agencies. His legacy of serving as a mentor to countless probation officers and working as a true servant leader will forever live within the hearts of those who were blessed to serve alongside him.
Upon relocation to Sharpsburg, Georgia in 1997, he joined Liberty Hill AME where he attained Steward Pro Tem. He was also Sunday school superintendent, Young People’s Department Advisor, and member of the Voices of Liberty and The Brothers of Excellence Choirs.
Harry will be surely missed, and his family will be left with a life time of precious memories.
