Adams announces the passing of Mr. Charles Dumas, 91, who transitioned on Friday, July 28, 2023 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF MR. CHARLES FRANK DUMAS
On August 31, 1931, Charles Frank Dumas, affectionately known as
“Smokey” to family and close friends, was born to Dewey and Rosa Bell
Walton, in Nashville, a small town in Berrien County, GA. Charles moved to
Savannah in 1939. He was the youngest of three children.
Charles attended Beach High School, graduating in 1949. He joined the
Army during the Korean Conflict, and served until he was honorably
discharged in 1955.
Charles was employed by Hunt Wesson for 38 years making hydrogen gas
to provide edible cooking oil.
In 1955, Charles married Barbara Juanita Mitchell, and from this union, six
children were born.
Charles professed his faith in God at an early age and was a faithful
member of St. Phillip Monumental A.M.E. Church until his death. Charles
served in several capacities, including deacon, trustee board, male chorus,
finance committee, class leader, and a member of the Sons of Allen.
Charles received many accolades, and was recently recognized as” Father
of the Year” by St. Phillip Monumental A.M.E. Church.
In 1976, Charles married Julia Annette Jaudon, and he remained a faithful
and devoted husband until the Lord called her home in 2018.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Dumas and Rosa
Bell Walton, wife Julia Annette Jaudon Dumas, sister, Minnie Bacon,
brother Walter, son, Charles Anthony Dumas, and grandson, Dalan Ira
Dumas.
He leaves to cherish his memory his five children, Rodney (Sedalia) Dumas
of Cameron, North Carolina; Michael (Viola) Dumas of Atlanta, GA; Enoch
(Elinda) Dumas of Savannah, GA; Glenn (Aundrea) Dumas of Atlanta, GA;
Andrea (Rickey) Dumas Davis, of Sugar Land, TX, 15 grandchildren, 10
great grandchildren, a special cousin Peggy (Elder Leroy) Bolden, and a
host of other relatives, church members, and friends.

Viewing: 4:00- 6:00PM Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the Funeral Home.
Interment: Hillcrest Abbey East.
